Why is the buy rate of players in the later half of IPL Auction very high?

Indian Premier League Mega Auction 2022 came to an end. Being an avid follower of IPL (cricket), IPL Auction is of the the most interesting part before the start of the IPL, especially the big auction where new teams are built. Players go under the hammer for 2 days, while some players are sold cheaply, some are sold at a very high price, sometimes the pricing might be surprising for all the fans. There is an interesting term that comes up in every IPL Auction and it is called the ‘Auction Dynamics’.

See the 1st list given below, these players had come first in the IPL Auction, they were all considered as ‘Marquee Players’ and all of them had the base price in the range of 1.5 cr to 2.0 cr. They have international experience and have scored runs / took wickets heavily.

Quinton De Kock – 6.75 (LSG)
David Warner – 6.25 (DC)
Pat Cummins – 7.25 (KKR)
Jason Roy – 2.0 cr (GT)
Deepak Hooda – 5.75 cr (LSG)
Shikhar Dhawan – 8.25 cr (PGKS)
R Ashwin – 5 cr (RR)
Yuzvendra Chahal – 6.25 cr (RR)

vs.

See the 2nd list below, these players were uncapped i.e not played international game or had a lesser base price but came late in the IPL Auction list.

Shimron Hetmyer – 8.5 cr (RR)
Wanindu Hasaranga – 10.75 cr (RCB)
Lockie Ferguson – 10.0 cr (GT)
Riyan Parag – 3.8 cr (RR)
Rahul Tewatia – 9.0 cr (GT)
Avesh khan – 10.0 cr (LSG)
Shahrukh Khan – 9.0 cr (PBKS)
Nicholas Pooran – 10.75 cr (SRH)

Now, if you can see, the later you come in the auction, the better it is for your salary in the IPL. It’s psychological that all the teams at the beginning of the auction have enough money in the purse and are willing to save the big amount for the respective player but as auction goes ahead, they lose to others and are left with none. As IPL Auction goes ahead, they realise that they still have not bought the players and that is when they panic, go desperate in filling up the spots.

This is something that is very surprising that happens in every auction. It definitely come as a blessing in disguise for players coming later in the list. Remember the term, Auction Dynamics!
